Welcome!

The County’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) effort has been ongoing since 1994.  Since then the county has created a centralized County Enterprise GIS. This enterprise approach includes centralized functions such as the development and maintenance of core data layers, development of data standards, system administration, and general oversight of GIS activities county-wide.

The Enterprise GIS supports numerous County agencies with their varying GIS needs and is involved in many county-wide GIS initiatives which are as follows:

The following day, additional staff from Enterprise GIS returned to Urbana High School to talk about what GIS is and what projects that the County is currently working on. They also demonstrated some of the web applications developed in-house, and introduced a new tool being utilized by the County, the Adapx Capturx Digital Pens . Students then participated in a hands-on activity with the digital pens, where they planned a Music Festival at the fairgrounds by marking on pre-made maps. They were able to see their markups digitally after the data from the pens was loaded to a computer.
